Miguel Alves is a final-year master’s student in Civil Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, specializing in Urbanism, Transports and Systems.

Passionate about data-driven urban planning, he is currently working on his thesis, entitled “Modelling Preferences on Street Redesigns: A Perception-Driven Framework Using Visual and Segmentation Data”, in the scope of the project Streets4All. It explores how machine learning and spatial analysis can assess the impact of street design interventions on public perception.

Beyond academics, he has gained experience in communication through the Pedagogical Council and in project and team management at the Students’ Association.
